Things You Can Make With a Recycled Water Bottle

By Sheilamarie Nellis

Have you ever wondered what you can make with a recycled water bottle?
Try this project with your kids!

You need:

empty plastic water or soda bottle with lid
glue
electric tape or duck tape
mineral oil
food coloring
water
glitter, pieces of shiny wrapping paper (optional)

1. Fill a clean, empty plastic bottle about 1/3 of the way up with water.

2. Mix in a few drops blue or green food coloring. Add the glitter.

3. Fill the bottle to the top with mineral oil. The color and the glitter will stay
in the water while the oil will rise to the top.

4. Put a little glue around the outside lip of the lid and screw the lid back on.
Put several layers of electric tape or duck tape around the lid to make a firm
seal.

After the glue has dried, and the tape is holding the lid securely, tip the bottle on its side. By tilting it back and forth, you can produce what looks like a wave in your bottle!

Contributor's Note

This is one of several ways recycled materials can be made into toys. I have lots more ideas, too. I hope you enjoy your wave bottle!

Thank you for sharing this information, Sheila.
It's wonderful to see ideas for helping our young people do things, without depending on electronics.
Keep up the good work.
Best wishes.
